What is Gangster Nation?

Gangster Nation is a online browser based game with a gangster theme. As a player you take on the role of a gangster. The object of the game is to become the best gangster you can. What that means exactly is up to you. Are you going to be a top killer? Do you want to become richer than ever? Do you want to run the biggest family? You will have to decide that for yourself. You can rank up through the ranks from lowly civilian to Capo di Tutti Capi. The game itself is time based meaning that certain events in the game will only be available after a certain time. After you attempt any crime you will have a wait time before you can attempt another one.

What is rank and how do I do it?

Rank signifies your progression through the game. Each crime you commit will give you rank points which you accumulate over the course of your account. Each rank has a certain number of rank points in it. See Rank Points. Once you have accumulated enough rank points you will rank up to the next rank. In order to rank you must commit crimes. The crimes you can commit can be found under Crime Scene on the left menu on the game site. After each crime you will have to wait to commit another one of the same type. Each crime will give you a varying number of rank points. Some will only give rank points if you succeed. Others will give points for a failure and more for a success. Busting other players out of jail will also increase your rank. Each successful bust you get will give you at least one rank point and the higher the rank you bust the higher number of rank points you will get. At first crimes and jail busting will be very difficult to succeed at. Your success percentage will increase after every attempt. Keep at it and you will be robbing and stealing with ease in a short time.

What should I focus on at the beginning?

From the time you sign up you have a five (5) day protection blanket. During these five days no one can shoot at you and you can not shoot at anyone. This gives you seven full days to make your account as strong as possible before facing the bad end of a Tommy gun. First you should buy all five guns. the guns become quite expensive. See Kill for the guns and prices. Making money is tough at first but you should be able to acquire enough to buy the guns. Bullets are also a key necessity. These can be bought at any owned Bullet Factory. Ranking is probably the most important thing to do on GN. The higher you rank the more money you can make. Each player develops his own style of play. But in the end all players no matter how they play need money. Make the most out of your time online. Commit as many crimes as you can. You want to maximize the time you spend playing and further your account as much as possible in that time period.

How do I make money?

In Gangster Nation there are a few different ways to make cash. First, you commit crimes. Successful crime attempts will give you cash. The higher you rank the more cash you will get from the crimes. Organized Crimes are the mack daddy of all crimes with payouts over $5,000,000 possible. Second, you can use a skill to make cash. Some players will gladly pay you to make them a pic or design a profile for them. Third, you can purchase Credits. Credits can be redeemed for in game cash or features. They also can be sold to other players through the Auction House. Casinos offer an opportunity for increasing your wealth. But you can lose it all as well. There are many ways to make cash on GN; these are but a few. Begging for cash seems to be a regular occurrence. If you do not mind looking weak and foolish you can always try that. Think like a gangster and you should be rolling in money in no time.

What is The Market?

The Market is a feature which players can send other players that improve or harm them. Mentorings and Mentoring Pluses are the most useful items for helping other players. Both help players rank. When one is sent to you from another player you receive a number of rank points. The number of points you receive is random but in average is about 20 for mentorings. Mentoring plus is meant to be sent to higher ranked players to help them along in the ranking process. You must be a thug or higher to access the pub. Items from the market can often be sold to other players for more than face value. Be careful though some unscrupulous players might not pay you for the item after you have sent it.

Currently the market is not completely coded. The items may say out of stock but you are still able to purchase them.

What is scamming?

Scamming is not following through on an agreement for an in game item. Typical example: Player A says he will buy Player B's beer for $100,000. Player B sends the beer to Player A. Player A never sends the money and usually replies with mean messages. Scamming happens on the game. It isn't against the rules and staff will not intervene on the matter. Plain and simple you should not trust anyone at first. It will probably still happen but minimize the chances of it occurring. If a deal sounds to god to be true it probably is. Scamming other players comes with a risk. Scammers usually die rather quickly. It is up to you if you wish the cheat others.

How to speak to other players without pissing them off

You think this would be common sense but I assure you it isn't. First you must realize that typing something and saying something are two completely different things. Sarcasm and humor do not always come across in typed messages. EVEN IF YOU ADD A SMILEY AT THE END. So take that in to account when typing messages. Secondly, no one likes being talked down to. Keep that in mind when sending messages. It is a good idea not to degrade anyone or their lifestyle. You have no idea who you are talking to or their situation. Do not assume to know anything about them or their lives. Making assumptions and speaking without facts make you look like an arrogant ass. Basically, if you have nothing nice to say don't say anything. You look very foolish attempting to fight over the internet. Good spelling and grammar are always appreciated. English isn't everyone's first language and it is understandable that some players will not have perfect syntax. But bad spelling and grammar from players who only speak English is rampant and quite annoying. Cursing does not really make you look intelligent or tough. Begging for in game items also will get you an earful from regular players. No one likes a mooch. People have worked for what they have and should not be expected to give it away just because you are new. Unsolicited messages asking to buy or sell in game items are quite annoying also. Classifieds and Chat are both excellent and appropriate ways to buy or sell items. Randomly messaging people is far less effective and usually considered spamming of inboxes. Inviting players as a buddy when you have never spoken to the person can also be seen as an annoying habit. You should at the very least introduce yourself or chat for a bit before inviting a total stranger to be a buddy. Finally, you should treat everyone on the game with the same respect you expect. If you just hate the world in general and don't get along with anyone it is probably better if you find somewhere else to be. People are on GN to have fun no one wants a sour puss coming and spoiling all the fun. If you do not enjoy the game or the people simply do not log on.

Also when speaking to Staff you should be most respectful. There are currently only three staff members so it should be rather easy to remember who they are : Mike, Plainy, PaLmEr. Most of the staff is here on a volunteer basis and deserve to be treated respectfully. They are here to ensure the game is run fairly and by the rules. You may not always agree with what they say or the actions they take. All of them are fair and reasonable individuals. Speaking with them in a respectful and kind manner will get you a lot further than berating them. In fact mouthing off and talking trash to them will most likely end in the banning of your account.

How Do I get in a Family?

There is no one way to get into a family. The best advice for getting into a family is to rank and make friends. It does not benefit a family to allow low ranked players join. The higher your rank the more available businesses you will bring to the family. Ranking is probably the easiest way to get an invite to a family as a new player. Making friends with other players on GN will help you also get into a family. The more people you meet and know the better your chances someone will want you in their family. Do not message members, bosses or RHMs asking to join. 99% of the time it will result in nothing. It is very annoying to receive messages from players you don't know wanting to join. Do not post messages asking to join a family. You will get no where doing this. If a family is looking for memebers the boss or another member will most likely post a recruitment topic in the Forums. Basically play the game, rank up and make friends and you will be invited into a family in no time.

Tips for new players

  • Do not send buddy invites if you have never talked to the player.
